The big news in the UK today is the scandal created after Britain's
first and only Independent Police and Crime Youth Commissioner (for
Kent) Paris Brown made a series of offencive remarks on Twitter. I can't
be bothered to list everything she said that was offencive but they
included some racist and homophobic remarks along with lots of
references to drugs, alcohol and casual sex.
Although the girls first name "Paris" could be a reference to either
Paris Hilton or as is more likely the French capital and the girl looks a
bit like the UK singer Adele this is clearly a reference to Rihanna and
her habit of doing things that some people find offencive such as the
"Run This Town" video and Tweets showing her in various states of
undress and/or using marijuana. After all one of the biggest problems
caused by one of Rihanna's Tweets was a mini-riot at a Paris train
station just before the 2012 Olympic Games and if you believe the
rumours Rihanna is soon to become Mrs Brown.
While Paris Brown's comments have caused a lot of debate she is a rather
easy person to defend. After all she has only just turned 17 years old,
has no previous experience in politics/public life and hasn't even
formally begun her job as Police and Crime Youth Commissioner yet.
Therefore this is quite clearly the UK trying to distance themselves
from the US' operation to reunite Chris Brown and Rihanna in order to
bring about the destruction of Rihanna. As the UK has been one of the
loudest voices calling for the US to take action to limit the damage
done by Rihanna this is massive news. After all even in the wild world
of Twitter comments no-one has yet called for Paris Brown to be raped
and murdered as punishment for her Twitter comments.
Beyond the Rihanna connection the Paris Brown scandal is intended to
promote discussion about the new and unconventional position of Youth
Police and Crime Commissioner - a role so new that nobody, not even
Paris Brown has performed it yet. It is pretty obvious that Paris Brown
was appointed to fulfil the 'Youth' and 'Crime' elements of the role.
That is to say she's been appointed to give the adults involved in law
enforcement close contact with an example of one of Britain's trouble
youth in order to help them be better able to understand and tackle to
crime created by that group. However it is equally clear that Paris
Brown has yet to work that is really her role. Therefore there are some
ethical questions about using her as an unwitting lab rat but it has to
be said we're hardly talking about killing or mutilating people here.
Even before the Paris Brown scandal broke the US seems to be desperately
trying to re-position itself on the Chris Brown/Rihanna relationship.
This is partly a response to the raucous laughter that greeted Chris
Brown's latest Court appearance and the fact no-one seems that
interested in Jay-Z and Beyonce's trip to Cuba and the debates about
permitted travel and pre-approved itineraries that it was supposed to
provoke.
Last night the US announced that it will be delaying a test-firing of a
Minuteman missile in California in order to avoid provoking the
Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea (DPRK) further. This is the US
trying to bargain in order to keep the Chris Brown operation going by
suggesting that in return they'll back off the DPRK operation. Putting
aside the fact that no-one trusts them it's a bad deal the US is
offering. That's because in the world of military intelligence everybody
is geared up to deal with the intelligence gathering and analysis of
information about things like troop movements and missile deployments.
What they are less trained in is the gathering and analysis of
information relating intensely personal emotional swings of a group of
people who are clearly not up to the professional standard. Therefore a
better offer would be that the US can continue the DPRK operation
provided they terminate the Chris Brown operation. Mind you the US don't
really want to be doing the DPRK operation in the first place.
As for Rihanna's concert in San Jose yesterday (6/4/13) I've not really
looked but it seemed to go well. Chris Brown didn't put in an appearance
and the only controversy is that judging by Twitter/Instagram posts you
could get the impression that Melissa Forde drove from LA to San Jose
while Rihanna and her friends flew. This would give the impression that
Forde is no longer considered as Rihanna's friend sparking speculation
that the pressure created by Chris Brown has succeeded in wrecking Forde
and Rihanna's relationship. However if you check the timings and do a
few quick sums you would quickly discover this simply didn't happen
which rather proves my point about the social group not being up to the
professional standard.
Apparently the concert was streamed live over the Internet and a full
recorded version is still available. So I think the best thing for me to
do is get stoned and have a pleasant evening watching the entire show
for the first time before writing my review tomorrow. After all
following my recent adventure I really need a day off.
